Our crews teamed up with Carteret Marine Services to comb the 8.5 mile shoreline of Shackleford Banks removing trash and debris. Over 2 tons of debris was removed by over 50 employees including parts of an old vehicle that had washed ashore or was uncovered during hurricane Florence. We were especially thankful to team up with Carteret Marine Services who provided additional team members, equipment, and barges to help haul the debris from the remote island. ProGreen hosts an appreciation event each August but this year we wanted to do more than just give our employees a day off. We wanted to create an event that can be continued through the years, build a sense of pride and teamwork with our team, but also give our work family some much needed time to relax. The Park Service does a great job keeping the island clean but they are limited in their resources to do so. Seeing an increase in debris, especially glass, when we visit gave us the idea that we should volunteer our time to help keep our favorite little island clean and thriving. Our crews spent half the day combing the island and the rest of the day enjoying smoked BBQ, volleyball, and some island relaxation! We love giving back to our team and community – especially an island we hold so dear!
